Audar / Privacy Notice
Privacy Notice
UNCOGNITO LLC · Effective date: September 24, 2026
This Privacy Notice describes how UNCOGNITO LLC (“UnCognito”, “we”, “us”) handles information in connection with the UnCognito Audar desktop application for Windows and macOS (the “App”). Audar captures your computer’s system audio and analyzes it in real time to estimate the likelihood that speech is synthetic or AI-generated.
1. On-device by default
Audar is built around on-device processing. Captured audio, detection scores, session history, and any notes you type are analyzed and stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to UnCognito — except where you choose to use the Source Check feature (Section 2) or submit a crash report (Section 4). In the Pro tier, session data is ephemeral and is deleted from your device.
2. Source Check (optional, you initiate it)
When you run Source Check, the App sends a short audio excerpt (15–30 seconds) to UnCognito’s processing service for provenance analysis, and returns a result. The full recording is never sent — only the short excerpt — and the feature is never triggered automatically. UnCognito does not retain the submitted excerpt; it is used only to produce your result. The analysis is performed with an enterprise cloud AI service under contractual terms that prohibit using your audio to train AI models; any processing copy the provider holds is transient. Results are estimates, returned to you and stored locally on your device.
3. Licensing and payment
To validate your license and enforce subscription tiers, the App sends a randomly generated device identifier and a hardware fingerprint to our licensing provider. This is used to bind your license to your device(s); it is not tied to your name. If you purchase a subscription, your email address and payment details are collected and processed by our payment processor, Stripe, under its own terms — UnCognito does not store your full payment card data. We associate a license with a Stripe customer to manage your subscription and entitlements.
4. Diagnostic and crash data
If you choose to send a crash report, it contains technical details to help us fix problems: the operating-system and app version, error and stack information, the application logs, your settings file, and a CSV of per-segment detection scores from the session active at the time. Crash reports are scrubbed of personal data before they leave your device: usernames and file paths are removed, your session notes are excluded, and no captured audio is included — the recorded audio never leaves your device in a crash report.
Audar contains no analytics or telemetry SDKs and collects no automatic usage metrics. The only automatic network activity is license validation (Section 3); Source Check (Section 2) transmits data only when you initiate it.
5. Information we do not collect
We do not collect the content of your captured audio (it stays on your device), we do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or third-party tracking. The only audio that leaves your device is the excerpt you deliberately submit through Source Check.
6. How we share information
We share limited information only with the service providers needed to run the App, each acting as a data processor under contract: an enterprise cloud AI provider (Source Check analysis, under terms that prohibit training on your audio), our licensing provider (license validation), and Stripe (payments). Data may be processed in the United States, the EU, or other jurisdictions with appropriate safeguards, including GDPR-compliant transfer mechanisms where required.
7. Data retention
On-device data stays until you delete it (or, in the Pro tier, is deleted automatically). Diagnostic/crash data is retained for up to 90 days and then deleted. Source Check excerpts are not retained by UnCognito beyond producing your result. Licensing records are kept while your license is active.
8. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures — encryption in transit, access controls, and secure infrastructure — to protect information we process.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA/CPRA, including access, correction, deletion, and objection. To exercise them, contact privacy@uncognito.ai.
10. Children’s privacy
Audar is not directed to children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
11. Changes to this notice
We may update this Notice; we will post the revised version with a new effective date and, for material changes, provide in-app notice.
12. Governing law
This Notice is governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, with mandatory GDPR provisions applying where required.
